SUMMARY:POSTPONED! Corbin Beisner Recital
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED \n\nCorbin Beisner – Concert Pianist \n  \nInternationally acclaimed pianist Corbin Beisner has captivated audiences across the United States and Europe for more than twenty years. Born in Las Vegas\, Nevada\, into a deeply musical family\, he has emerged as a dynamic and sought-after performer known for his virtuosity\, stylistic versatility\, and compelling stage presence. \nMr. Beisner’s recent highlights include commanding performances of Liszt’s Concerto No. 1 with the Master Orchestra in Brescia\, Italy; Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the New Britain Symphony in Connecticut; and Chopin’s Concerto No. 2\, Op. 21 in the quintet arrangement with members of the CT Chamber Virtuosi. He also received enthusiastic acclaim for his collaboration with celebrated Polish soprano Eleonora Wojnar in Poland. \nCorbin’s international recital career has taken him to leading venues such as the Conservatori Liceu in Barcelona\, the Liszt Saal at the Accademia d’Ungheria in Rome\, and prestigious halls across Switzerland—including a standout all-Liszt recital at the iconic Les Trois Rois hotel in Basel. Additional European engagements include performances in Budapest\, Hungary\, and appearances at the renowned Summer Liszt Academy in Schillingsfürst\, Germany. \nIn the United States\, he has been featured by major cultural organizations including the Chopin societies of Connecticut and Texas\, the Chopin Foundation of Florida\, the American Liszt Society\, and the Polish-American Foundation of Connecticut. \nA graduate of the Hartt School of Music and the famed Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest\, Mr. Beisner brings a rare combination of classical polish and improvisational instinct to his interpretations. His early jazz training informs his rhythmic freedom and expressive range\, qualities that distinguish his performances on international stages. \nCritics consistently praise his artistry. Die Neue Fricktaler Zeitung and Badische Zeitung have singled out his performances of Beethoven\, Chopin\, Debussy\, and Liszt\, while the Südkurier hailed him as: “Effortless\, with a great seriousness\, powerful\, and with an individual technique. A sensitive and virtuosic player.” \nAmerican pianist and author Paul Bisaccia calls him: “One of the best of the new generation of pianists… If you have an opportunity to hear Corbin in concert\, run—don’t walk—to hear him.” \nLegendary Liszt authority Leslie Howard adds: “His apparently unperturbable demeanor at the keyboard affords him a justified air of true musical authority…” \nWith a growing international profile\, Corbin Beisner continues to inspire audiences with performances that unite intellectual depth\, emotional intensity\, and thrilling technical command.

SUMMARY:Cummings / Owens: Violin & Piano Duo
DESCRIPTION:  \nProgram Highlights: \n  \nSonata in B-flat\, K. 378 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . W.A. Mozart (1756-1792) \nAllegro moderato \nAndantino sostenuto e cantabile \nAllegro \n  \nSonata in A (1919) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ildebrando Pizzetti (1880-1968) \nTempestoso \nPreghiera per gli’Innocenti (Molto Largo) \nVivo e fresco \n  \nSonata No. 1 in G Major\, Op. 78 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) \nVivace ma non troppo \nAdagio \nAllegro molto moderato \nThe Composers: \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed this B-flat Major sonata in Salzburg in 1779\, just prior to his settling in Vienna. Soon after his move he became involved in having several of his works published\, including this and five other sonatas for violin and piano\, dedicating the lot to one of his most gifted piano students\, a Josepha Barbara Aurnhammer. The six have been known\, in the Mozart canon\, as the ‘Aurnhammer Sonatas’. The piano parts of his pieces\, whether he played them at house recitals or in subscription concerts\, often survived as mere sketches of what the master improviser proposed to realize in performance\, and it is widely supposed that Fräulein Aurnhammer played a major part in filling out these piano parts for first editions. One charming touch in this ingratiating work\, is the third movement’s reprise of a descending phrase heard near the end of the second movement. \n\nIldebrando Pizzetti was among the relatively few Italian musical artists whose careers were not upended by the Great War. Along with everyone else who lived through it\, however\, he was terribly shaken by it. His Sonata in La per Pianoforte e Violino was written as a response to the horrors of war\, although the bulk of the tragic emotion resides in the extensive first movement. The second is a touching\, poignant Preghiera per gli’Innocenti – A Prayer for the Innocent – referring of course to the countless children whom war brutalizes. \nA deeply religious current runs throughout most of Pizzetti’s work\, and the first and third movements present various treatments of a chantlike lyrical theme. Happy spirits set in with the finale\, which rises to undeniable heights of life-affirming hope. \nThe bulk of Pizzetti’s output lies in his thirteen operas\, many of which seem inspired dramatically by the tradition of the Medieval mystery plays. As a music administrator\, he succeeded Respighi as composition professor at the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome\, serving as its director from 1948 to 1951. \n\nJohannes Brahms wrote his G-Major violin/piano sonata during the summer of 1879\, in a favorite holiday spot in southern Austria. The work itself is winningly sunny\, and it has been said that many listeners who perhaps find Brahms’s music serious and foreboding tend to be won over by this sonata’s friendliness. Its songfulness owes much to the fact that the third movement amounts to a fleshed-out study of his song\, Regenlied (Rain Song)\, Op. 59\, no. 2\, which is taken in this movement to lengths well beyond the haunting parameters of that exquisite song. But midpoint in this movement\, Brahms is again at pains to let us know he is not done with\, in this case\, the second movement’s lovely main theme\, which he calls up for further treatment. This motif combines with the ‘rain song’ music to add still more loveliness and lustre – showcasing Brahms’s considerable talent for recycling and redeveloping his own material. \n  \nThe Performers: \nCynthia Cummings studied at the University of Michigan with Paul Makanowitzky\, at the University of Southern California with Eudice Shapiro\, and earlier with Burton Kaplan and Charles Castleman. \nAssociate Concertmaster of the Omaha Symphony for three years\, Cynthia was also a Tanglewood Fellow for three summers. She served with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra in South Lancaster\, MA\, both as concertmaster and soloist. She was a founding member of the Arriaga Quartet\, and has played with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra since 1987\, as well as with other ensembles in and around Boston. Her violin is a 1752 creation of the Spanish luthier Joseph Contreras. \n\nDavid Owens began his long experience as a collaborative pianist while he was majoring in composition at the Eastman School of Music\, in Rochester. His passion for chamber music was formed there and has never ebbed. David worked at Eastman with Brooks Smith (Heifetz’s longtime accompanist)\, and later in New York City with chamber-music giant Artur Balsam. He has produced a sizeable number of compositions – orchestral\, choral and chamber – including a series of Soliloquies for a variety of solo instruments.

SUMMARY:Vanishing Point: Where Sound and Memory Converge — Cherry Kim\, Cello & Han Nah Son\, Piano Duo Concert
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us on Saturday\, November 15th\, at the Falcetti Pianos Performance Hall\, to experience performances from the talented Cherry Kim and Han Nah Son. Tickets for the event can be purchased here. \nVanishing Point explores the meeting place of music\, memory\, and emotion where sound transforms\, fades\, and lingers in the imagination. The program begins with Debussy’s Sonata for Cello and Piano\, whose shifting colors and textures evoke light\, reflection\, and movement. Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata follows\, its tender lyricism and graceful lines breathing with warmth and song. The journey culminates in Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata in G minor\, where intensity and nostalgia intertwine before dissolving into silence. Together\, these works trace the arc of how music is felt\, remembered\, and ultimately released reaching toward the vanishing point where sound and emotion become one. \n“Music is the space between the notes.” — Claude Debussy \nOur Program\nClaude Debussy | Sonata for Cello and Piano\, L. 135\nFranz Schubert | Arpeggione Sonata in A minor\, D. 821\nSergei Rachmaninoff | Sonata in G minor for Cello & Piano\, Op. 19 \nPerformers\nCellist Cherry Kim\, acclaimed for her “poignant lyricism and expressive gestures” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer)\, is a versatile musician equally at home in styles from baroque to contemporary.
